Cornwall gets back to winning ways

Cornwall took a good win in the annual match against Devon, taking 21 of the 36 games played during the day, against Devon's 15. This ended a 'dry spell' for Cornwall in the competition, having last come out on top in 2013.

The event, held at the Star Inn, St Day, on Sunday 9 July, was between six teams from each region, playing six timed games in a round robin.

Cornwall started well, winning five games in round 1 and finishing the morning session with 12 wins from the 18 games played. Devon's best result was round 5, in which they took five wins. That left the scores at 17 to Cornwall against Devon's 13 going into the final round. The result was clinched by a last ball shot by Susan Williamson of Kernow 6, adding a win which made Kernow's lead unbeatable.

The two most successful Cornwall teams were Kernow 3 (Ray Beresford, Paul Lumley and Andrew Jarvis) and Kernow 5 (Barbara Brown, Lena Daddow, Bill Kingdon and Pete Lynas). Both had five wins and a points difference for the day of +17.

Kernow 1 (Colin 'Boot' Booth, Roy Pemberton and Graeme Kirkham) took four wins with a points difference of +18. They were hampered by Graeme managing to shoot Boot's boule rather than the opposition's three times running, probably a new Kernow record!

Kernow 2 (Dion Beechey, Tim Coad and Rob Sullivan) did well in the morning session with three wins, but didn't add to the tally in the afternoon, ending with three wins and +1.

Kernow 4 (Eric Guy, Mark Hypponen and Paul Rundle) had two wins (-5) and Susan Williamson with Tony and Di Smith, Kernow 6, also took two wins (-25).

A big thank you to all who played: roll on 2018!
