New Cornwall Shooting Champion - and President's event melée winners

The new Cornwall region Shooting Champion is Andy Rose, of the Rising Sun PC. He took the trophy against nine other contestants on Sunday 8 October, during a competition held as part of the Kernow President's Day event at the Star Inn, St Day.

The event used the region's new shooting mat for the first time, obtained from those clever people in Southern Counties. Very convenient, although the stark white of the material was somewhat distracting! Just as well it was a bit gloomy or we'd all have been wearing dark glasses!

The melée was won by Tregony PC's Tony Smith, who took five wins and one draw from the six rounds played. The North Inn PC took second and third places, with Colin 'Boot' Booth on four wins and one draw and Bill Kingdon on four wins.

The pointing contest held during the day was won by Mark Hypponen, another North Inn player.

Turnout for the day was very disappointing, with fewer than half of the region's registered members taking part in what is intended to be a significant social event in the Kernow calendar. If players don't like melées (and some don't) they need to say what they would prefer!

Fingers crossed for more faces next Sunday at the region's major charity event of the year, the Reg Daddow Memorial doubles competition.
