Cornwall summer league under way

Round 1 of the Cornwall summer petanque league kicked off yesterday, Sunday 22 April, with Tregony away to the North Inn, Pendeen.

The visitors came away with an encouraging 3-0 win from the three timed triples games.

Tregony's Susan Williamson, Paul Rundle and Graeme Kirkham took the first game 13-6 against North Inn's Bill Kingdon, Anthony Frost and Dominik Ellwanger. The second game went to the same score, with North Inn fielding Anthony, Pete 'PD' Downing and Mark Hypponen.

After a great North Inn lunch the sun came out in time for the third game. This was closer, with Dominik, Bill and Mark pushing strongly for a result. North Inn took the score to 11-9 up but Graeme shot twice for Tregony and stayed, with his boules 25-30 cm behind the jack. Paul then pointed one in front of the jack, but North Inn were still holding. Susan pointed with Tregony's final boule, pushed Paul's boule onto the jack, which moved back to bring Graeme's two boules behind into play. Mark shot once and pointed with North Inn's last two boules, but Tregony took four on the end to win the game.

The other league game this month will be Coaching Inn PC at home to Vogue PC; watch this space for results.
