Three-way competition . . .

On Sunday 22 July, Kernow Petanque was scheduled to play in the annual three-way competition between the Devon, Great Western and Kernow regions of Petanque England.

Regrettably, for the second year running, Kernow is not able to field the required six triples. In consequence there was no choice but to formally withdraw from the event.

This is doubly unfortunate after Cornwall's success in the inter-regional event against Devon last month.

Competing in events within the Kernow region is one aspect of our activities, but it is these inter-regional contests, when we pit ourselves against players that we don't otherwise meet, which give us an opportunity to gain new experience, test our skills and see which areas of our game we need to develop.

This is another reminder that Kernow badly needs new players coming into our clubs, particularly players who are willing to commit and keen to develop their abilities and be competitive. Only with more players coming up through the clubs can we strengthen ourselves as a region.

So, if you live in Cornwall and are interested in playing petanque, Kernow needs you!

Our best wishes to Devon and Great Western regions for a great day's competitive play on Sunday. We very much hope to rejoin you next year.
