Countdown to Hayling!

This Friday the Kernow squad, together with hundreds of other petanque players from all over England and Wales, heads to Hayling Island, Hampshire, for the annual Petanque England inter-regional competition.

The four Kernow teams will play 12 games over the weekend, seven on Saturday 15 September and five more on Sunday 16 September.

Having not taken part in the event as a region since 2015, Kernow Petanque this year has a squad of 14 players plus manager and will be playing in Division 2 of the Challenge contest.

Kernow 1 is Colin 'Boot' Booth and Bill Kingdon (both North Inn PC), Roy Pemberton (Coaching Inn) and Graeme Kirkham (Tregony). Kernow 2 is Andy Rose (Rising Sun PC), Mark Hypponen (North Inn) and Andrew Jarvis (Vogue PC).

Lena Daddow (Vogue), Susan Williamson, Pete Lynas and Paul Rundle (all Tregony) make up Kernow 3 and Kernow 4 is Rob Sullivan, Dion Beechey and Tim Coad (all Coaching Inn PC).

It's great that Kernow is once again taking part in the biggest event on the petanque calendar for the regions making up Petanque England. But, the long-term goal is to have a large enough squad for Cornwall to be able once more to take part not in the Challenge but rather in the main competition at the inter-regionals: that means eight teams, at least 24 players. So, if you are in Cornwall and interested in playing petanque, Kernow Petanque needs YOU!
